THE CELEBRATION OF BURIED LOVE AMONG TODAY NIGERIANS
The ornery of inadequacy of sensitive and well-intentioned economy team to reduce the harshness of the country's current situation of inflation and so-called recession, contributed immensely to the reality of everyday Nigerians suffering from the lack of maintaining daily meals. Which would make them derelicts, not having the capability to afford the basics. Today in Nigeria many homes has be shattered by hunger and starvation, many children are out of schools simply because parents can't pay their fees, many dignified but hard-working folks were reduced to 'high class beggers' those who will beg for only food and they do it only in religious centers and not in the streets.
I can continue the stark, but my emotional stunning wouldn't let me. It wouldn't be long before civil servants with minimum wages of eighteen thousands naira salary to be propel into stinking business of 'high class beggary. Although I stand to be guided.
My little conviction isn't squawking before I encountered this sorrowful but mug incident, that you are about to read between one Mr John and mallam Yakubu. This dourly incident alone thrust my consciousness and left me emotionally sap, which however, informed my today's column. Enjoy the distressful story as it goes.
Mallam Yakubu is a 'okada man' whose job is to carry persons from the main gate to the campus (dormitory). That being is work, Mr John came to require his service and mallam Yakubu accepted to carry him to his destination. As it happen, they reached where Mr John have to stop though, Mr John haven't ask about the fare from the gate to the dormitory yet it is his first time to visit the place these unknown to mall. Yakubu tthus, he thought his humble passenger wasn't new to it. After he dropped from the bike mall. Yakubu inquired of his money, now Mr John asked how much will that be, which the okada rider said is # 70. Mr John could not accept to give him the required amount,he offer to give #50, but mall. Yakubu was not satisfied. This could not have went with calm and sense of reasoning from the both, soon it generated into rowdiness and strife between the two when mall. Yakubu realized that Mr John could not find the even the #50 he is insisting, However, this couldn't end well some sensitive people have come and settle between them which of course I happen to be one of those people. Afterwards they both narrated their part of the story with engrossing grievances, I tried to be temporary judge. Though, I didn't side with either of the parties involved as well as tried not to give judgement. The simple instinct that stroke me at the moment, to let peace trust reign and peace take the lot, I gave mall. Yakubu his due amount( not trying to impress). After the flames of anger died out, Mr John Attempt to give me the snapping social position which he found himself ( of course is very common with Nigerians, that whenever you extended a helping hand to them especially during the dearest need will have to give you needless details about themselves and their problems. Though I'm never for once interested, it's always bored to me, but then what could I have done to stop the grieving man?).
To be continued next week.
GINA WEEKEND COLUMN.: I discuss my experience, opinion on Nigeria politics. And give my commentary on the social, economic and cultural happenings. All these are base on my understanding and conviction of Nigeria society. Thus comments and objective criticism are most welcome.
