Many of course accused me of being outspoken and radical on my approach in my last week article. While others still have me called an arrogant because of my bold steps I had taken in debunking the vices of the faculty society and its members. All these I overlooked because it didn't vibrate my ears nor it worth my attention to react over them. They are too trivial to response to, their comments lack intellectual substance. However, here is my thoughts
There is nothing wrong with arrogance if it co-exist with intelligence.
What prompt me to write about this topic is my encounter with one senior colleague who approached me just few minutes to the Congress. With all the innocence written on his face, well dressed which convinced my conscience that he is a responsible and well-mannered individual.
Our conversation goes like this ;
Salam, he throws. Which Of course I responded.
'I know that you are not with us. He processed, with some smile of drollness.
' please, I don't get you. I said looking confused.
'don't pretend that you don't know we are to dissolve the CTC. He said, and you are not in support of it.
'I have no interest in it, I resorted with slight anger. Whatever the majority decide will be my stand.
'OK then, vote for the dissolution of the CTC. he advised. And I will contest for a post in the new CTC that will emerge.
' I'm not for sale. I said with more irritating. And you can't buy me.
With this our conversation ended, without Reconciling our interests. I stood still thinking about the Congress outcome, though I have no idea what will happen. If people like this individual that conversed with me could be so desperate to ravage public interest to satisfy their selfish interest I can't predict the Congress will end with Reconciliation.
What I inferred from this brief conversation is that, There are divided interests in the parties involved. Politics already consume them and blindfold their consciousness to think that leadership isn't all about fulfillment of your 'vested interest' it's about fighting for the interest of the public and the followers. It's about sacrificing your own resources and time to get the followers interest fulfill, preserve and protected.
It is very unfortunate that Law students upon all people could not be able to conduct themselves in a responsible and reasonable manner in a Congress that does not constitute 200 students. ( ridiculing their bragging superiority upon which they present themselves in their counterparts. That they know the laws, they are smart and responsible. ) Only for them to be so naive in argument, insulting each other appearance, and arguing in a baseless motions. They couldn't bring themselves in to terms, the Congress have to be reschedule for another day. ( I'm not saying it is bad for gathering like this not to agree with themselves. But it has to be on a reasonable grounds, which is not the case with this one.). Not only it's rescheduled, a lecturer have to come in attendance before the Congress could maintain a reasonable decorum. Which is a blow to the nobility of the LSS. I congratulate the newly emerged CTC, having them accepted the victory. There is a big task ahead of them. The task of Reconciling the aggrieved parties, the task of rebuilding of the Fallen brotherhood wall, the task of creating unity once again, the task of working together with anyone with good faith for the society regardless of whether they support you or not when contesting, the task of injecting the vaccine of love and mutual relationship in our already virus-inffected socialization.
For those who may think I'm used as a political machinery, my answer to them is. I'm so expensive and my conscience is priceless that no a politician or any selfish individual could afford.
GINA WEEKEND COLUMN.: I discuss my experience, opinion on Nigeria politics. And give my commentary on the social, economic and cultural happenings. All these are base on my understanding and conviction of Nigeria society. Thus comments and objective criticism are most welcome.
