THE PROBLEMS WITH NIGERIANS
GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
BY:
HABIBU GENTE
DATE: Saturday, April 8, 2017.
'In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act'
Gorge Orwell
Nigeria is a country with the highest number of ethnic groups in Africa . And the largest in the continent, and most populous black nation on earth. Blessed with both abundance of natural and human resources, yet one of the poorest countries in the world today. Having the most richest cultures yet they have the most pervasive moral decadence politicians. A rich nation with a poorest citizens. One of the fastest growing economy while the citizens droning in the ocean of poverty. Having highest number of educational institutions in Africa, yet eighty percent of the citizens are illiterates. They experienced one of the worst civil wars in the world, yet they are the least nations in the world to forget the gory history and swift to repeat such mistake in human history.
Many scholars and intellectual academics had intensively discuss about the problems of Nigeria. For me to write about same topic it would be like a drop of rain in a ocean. However, a drop of rain in the ocean wouldn't reduced its water. Rather it will increase to the already abundance. This is what I will do, and equally to remind our youths that those problems outlined by those intellectuals like Chinua Achebe, Soyinka and the likes, it isn't same problems that affect us today there are new ones that grew with circumstances of times and social change in our modern day. Although some of it still hunt us today, problems like; lack of good leadership, lack of patriotism, intolerance, nepotism, tribalism, ethnicity and corruption etc.
The problems with Nigeria isn't the amalgamation of 1914, it isn't 1979 republic nor the failure of the first independent general census. To me the problem started when chief Enahoro tabled for the independence 1954. The total rejection of the motion by some groups and the conspiracy behind it advocacy. That is the root of our problems. And it grandchild is the 1966 coup which gave birth to the gory civil war that lasted in 1970. From that very moment in our nation the disparity, lack of trust, hatred, selfishness and ethno-religion sentiment seeds germinated into beautiful green-vegitaton called 'Nigeria of our time'.
However, here are some of the problems with Nigerians I identified in our modern country;
1. ABSOLUTE TOLERANCE; There is not absolute tolerance in Nigeria. Some will argue that Nigerians tolerate each other. And they will cite example of the way people live peacefully with each other in different regions. Like yorubas are living with hausas in the north. Igbos living with yorubas and hausas. And vice versa. But I said it is misleading to think so, in those regions there is only 'political tolerance ' and not what I called ' absolute tolerance '. Why?, because absolute tolerance means not only to live peacefully with one another in good and calm times. No, its means understand each other cultures , beliefs and norms ,understand your differences and live with them. And when your ideologies clashes resolve to adopting 'hold yours' and 'I hold mine'. And not to imposed yours in others and be convinced about its superiority complex. And when there is clash with those cultures, norms and values or any wrongs from its adherents judge each one based on their own values norms and cultures regardless of where they reside. This is what 'absolute tolerance ' means.
To be continued .

WHAT PRESIDENT-ELECT KWARO OF LSS BUK NEED TO KNOW
HABIBU GENTE;
Mr. President-elect your victory on the poll did not mean your opponent is weak. It means that you are the one destined to be task with the responsibility of carrying faculty of law students to the next level. Your struggle start now, and it will never end until you vacate the post. Your campaign slogan was 'unity ' and many people are clamoring for this same unity. This is why they elected you as their president. And mind you if you failed them, it wouldn't take something for them to impeach you.
The very unity you campaign for was being tested by many of your supporters and campaign team. They used derogatory terms to define your opponent which is very bad and defaming in nature. My last article too, contributed in threatening the foundation of our unity. For it touched the aggrieved party. Mr. President -elect all these it is a test to your competency and on how truthful your campaign slogan 'unity' will be achieved. Show to the people that you stand for that 'unity' and not otherwise to gain their support.
1. You and your campaign team owe your opponent Auwal Sirajo an open letter apology for the defamation and to restore his good image back in the faculty. This will be the first step toward achieving unity.
2. Know that your team that help you to win the election may not necessarily be your cabinet if only you want unity and peace. You should tried to involve many elderly but selfless individuals to make up your cabinet. That too is another step to uniting the faculty and its members.
3. Know that some of your campaign team members are not fit to bring unity among the students. So fish out those who can do it.
4. Know there will not be any development in the faculty without you engaging every person that show concern and have interest in moving the LSS.
5.Our major threat to uniting the faculty is your class. Make a bold steps to bring your people (class) together and united as strong and single brotherhood as a leader .if you achieve this, then we will believe in you as someone who will bring unity in the faculty. Your class is the one we are all looking after as example and if your differences will continue to exist then, there is no way how that unity will be realize in LSS. You shouldn't let your own difference in the class affect the whole faculty , because that is what exactly is happening. Your class tried to involved everybody into your own class problems which has nothing to do with us. Try to settle your class problem and not involve anyone outside your class. Your class already did a great deal of damage to the LSS enough is enough.
6. Finally Mr. President -elect to achieve this unity in your class, engage your opponent Auwal he is a symbol of unity and peace. He accepted defeat and embrace you despite voices are saying no it. His courage and love for LSS is immeasurable, he show his level of maturity by calming his supporters even after the election .in fact he is symbol of democracy in LSS

MY RESPONSE TO MY TODAY'S MISCONSTRUED ARTICLE
HABIBU GENTE
Though many people may think I wrote this to quench the fire -uproar of altercation that went viral on social media early morning. My article received condemnation and I was personally attacked. Well that isn't something that I will take personal, to me this is the least I could get in living in a society where if you deviate from the conformity of people whimsical views and interest, even if it means you are saying the truth. I deserved all the vulgar words everyone used against me, because if you have to stand on truth always even against all odd and intimidation. You should be expecting something like this. I knew it was coming and I embraced it when it come.
My writing was totally misunderstood and people think it will trigger the pending grievances hanging around the faculty. Writers are the most misunderstood people in world today, so I can't be exception. To those who read and follow my writings, I'm radical in my approach to issues that concern everyday people. And because of my unquantifiable concern for those people, my need for justice for everyone, I cherished equality and love. I appear always as most radical writer. So understand me, I hold no grudges or hatred against anyone. I respect people but we will have differences when you attempt to smear those things I held dearly.
Although I was harsh and brutal in my today's article .I know that my words are very vulgar, yea it is true. I hurt many of my closet friends and associates for they are among those I centered my attack on. But if truth be told, it is the justice I could do to the reaction prior to the election. Of course, not all of them may be in such attitude. But what a reasonable person would infer, they left those individuals to destroy their goodwill they might have for the people, while they let those their good sense to be outweighed by the restricted thinking. To my closet friends and associates you may disappointed by me today, you think I insulted you, know that it is not personal. And I will not feel happy to insult you. It is because you found yourself mixed up in a wrong side of the world.
Let me make something straight to all LSS members, my today's article doesn't mean that kwaro group has no problem or deficiency on how they too, conducted their campaign strategy. No they have a lot and I will discuss that later in my writings. (I owe you two more topics on this election).
I wouldn't be happy as someone who always advocates unity ,peace and equality to see those things are disregarded in my own class. It will be a mockery to my intellectualism. So that is why I applied the theory of generalism in my approach today. To my friends in the class that I touched in today's article , we will settle that personally in our own way.
If anyone doesn't want to be in my 'rogue gallary' that is my isle of insensitive, floozy, ineptitude. Then simple antidote will do it. Be selfless, fair, just and respect and recognize every human by the virtue of their living as humans.

HOW AUWAL'S CAMPAIGN TEAM ARCHITECT HIS POLL LOST
GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
BY:
HABIBU GENTE
DATE: Saturday ,1 April .2017
......Let not your failure define you. Let your failure teach you.
Barrack Obama.
Unfortunately the 'campaign team' of the presidential candidate, Auwal Mukhtar Sirajo in just concluded election are farfetched responsible on the misfortune that befell their candidate on the poll. They may not know of this though, well it is the truth. Their ineptitude, insincerity, insensitive, and political miscalculation accentuated their incompetent and social follies in giving advice to him. They thought politics is about personal business and grudges, to them if you have a common difference with them you have no business in them. This alone is a myopic way of thinking.
Auwal's campaign team lack of tolerance to accommodate all people regardless of class, status, ethnic/region and academic performance make them to loss the election before even the actual voting day. To them their first priority to choose leader who will lead them is, how that candidate perform academically. Why they forget that academy performance has nothing to do with leadership qualities. And the flimsy campaign strategy on such thing , make their candidate to lost his popularity among the electorates even before the election. Auwal has no problem in the way he approach people, is humble, polite and humane. But his campaign team lack all these which consequently made him to suffered their ineptitude.
Again another major thing that contributed to his lost, is the' hate campaign' strategy his team had been making viral in social media and in verbally when in contact with those whom they considered opposition or working with their opponent. Such things like, their opponent has three carryovers, he is not competent, he can't speak good English, and other irrelevant issues that has no ground in politics. Should they spend all those precious time they uselessly squandered in their 'hate campaign ', in promoting their candidate 's qualities, competency, vibrancy, humbleness, I'm sure he would have not lost his polarity day before the election. Politics is not about hate campaign against your opponent, politics is all about promoting your candidate.
Because they already sore their relationship with people, they in turn became paranoid thinking that if you take no interest in their ideology, it mean you hated them. They also have this 'guilty conscious ' ingrained in them. Which make them to think that everybody doesn't like their candidate. To be frank I personally, did not have any problem with the candidate I know he could do the job. But my major problem is with his campaign team they have no regard to people 's personality, dignity or respect. And why I debunked their ideology is simple, because they have no social orientation and dignity to human.
If Auwal would or any candidate have these bunch of inept, insensitive, myopic, human wolf, and floozy individuals as campaign team, will never win election where there are sensitive, educated and civilized people like Faculty of Law BUK. To risk being exaggerating , if Auwal will re-contest again (with someone worst than Kwaro) with those people as his campaign team he will never win the election.

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE : MY OWN PERSONAL ACCESSEMENT
By: HABIBU GENTE
Date: Wednesday 29 2017
The nail has been heated on the head today on the pending issues that hovered on the candidates' speculations based on their competency and vibrancy. To some is like they silenced their critics , while to others is just a stepping stone toward gaining the popularity of the electorates. Whichever is the case, it is still a great contest between the two. And consequently depict their aptitude and individual intellectualism .
The hot contest between Kabir Lawal D. (Kwaro) and Auwal Mukhtar Sirajo, it is a beautiful one of its kind. Although the political ribaldry displayed by their die-hard supporters tarred most of the responses emanated from them. And in the same vain , obstruct the thoughts provoking questions that might have come from the audiences. It is very bad indeed, that said.
I commend the two debaters for their bravery gestures in attempting the numerous but challenging questions . Though ,there are some deficiencies in them. Some logical lapses and incoherent style they adopted in ways of approaching keys issues in their manifestos. Anyway, they will not suffer the blame alone. However, the Caretaker Committee too, contributed on the follies accentuated in the Congress. Their poor organization did a incurable damage to the whole event. I hope such mistake will not repeat itself in the future.
My judgment goes like this;
The most impressive part of the debate and the best responses both the candidates could ever give the audiences, is the first question thrown to them by the Chairman CTC. If my memory could serve me well, the question is something like this "everyone know and complain about the degeneration of LSS and the malfunction it's suffered by the previous administrations. So what tools did you have to revive the LSS?"
MR. Auwal response went like this; " the only tools that I think can revive LSS is two; Representation and Development ". Although, he didn't explained those tools and how they could help in reviving the "death LSS".
MR. Kwaro response went like this; " What i think that can help in reviving LSS is for us to adopt the philosophical approach. And the tools are Unity, equality, and mutual relationship ". Of course he too, didn't analyze those tools and how they could be of help in reviving the 'death LSS'.
To me these responses from the candidates are the best so far they gave throughout the debate. All the rest are just noises they made, and perpetually deviating from the questions when attempting to answer them. Too sad indeed.
HERE IS MY MESSAGE TO EVERY ELECTORATES
Please vote wisely without fear or intimidation from any of the candidates or their die-hard supporters . And bore in minds that someone has to win and someone will lose. So never allow any politicians to use you as machinery to invest in their 'vested insterests'' so much that you become his blind supporter that will lead you to taint your relationship with others who oppose him. I hope I could say much, but I ran out of space. So let us watch the battle with keen interest, peacefully and wisely.
