EQUALITY IN EDUCATION; THE MYTHS AND IDEALS ( III)

 GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
By: Habibu Gente
Date: Saturday  , 21, October ,   2017

Previously, we have seen from the argument I tried to elucidate the misperceived concept of "equality", how it was used in our educational system to mean a different thing entirely. And how the concept was interchangeably used with "justice" and entirely given the meaning of justice to equality. This week, we will see the second task of this paper. I will argue that although our constitution contemplates the guarantee  of social justice, equality of economic and cultural and free and compulsory education to all citizens of Nigeria. But, those sacred provisions are themselves inequality embedded. Chapter two of CFRN that spelled out the fundamental objectives and directive principles of state policy provide in section 18 (3) free and compulsory education to all. (The argument whether it justiciable  or not, is a topic of another time)the purpose here is to argue whether the said "free, compulsory, university and universal primary educational or free adult literacy programme" has been realise, maintained  and enjoyed by all and sundry or was it just a mere illusory, scratch written in a white paper to deceive the people?.
Anytime mention is made of equal educational opportunities, many minds rushed to think that as citizens of a country everyone has same rights and  privileges as regard to the education. Ideally that's what the Constitution dictate, but in practice it meant something different entirely. In Nigeria, for example, everyone including; the politicians, public servants and even activists cries for equal opportunities of education as something we achieved as a nation. If you ask them, did we enjoy free education? They will answer in affirmative. Simply because we are not paying tuition fees. But the question is does only not paying of tuition fees means compulsory and equal opportunities of education?, meanwhile how can we reconcile the outstanding balance of private own schools with that of poorly maintained government run schools. Thus the well-off parents take their children to the former while the underprivileged children were left behind to rot together with the already rotten public schools. We shout of free education while the only door to access of education that poor and underprivileged children have in their disposal are the  ill-equipped public schools that were abandoned by the government.  How on earth could we speak of equal opportunities to education while the dichotomy between private and public schools is increasing every year.  And the ticket to good and quality education is money and riches privilege and not right and opportunity to everyone regardless of poor or rich. How can we accommodate the increasing growth of disparity  of the poor-child poor educational background with rich-child quality education?. So long as these walls of disparities standstill between the rich and poor, which reflects on our educational sectors then, the provisions of section 18 still remain ideal and the objectives of the whole chapter two particularly the ideal of social justice is a blatant failure, and rendered the effort of our constitutional drafters a futile one.
RECOMMENDATIONS; For our education to achieve its purpose of equality as stated in section 18 CFRN, government need  to improve the conditions of our public schools. So as to render private own schools as a celebration of richness. As children will not be rushed there because of quality education. Because our public schools can serve that purpose.

THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND THE "CHANGE BEGIN WITH ME"

GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
By: Habibu Gente
Date: Saturday  , 14, October ,   2017
The  Buhari-led administration came into power with a confusioned  mantra of "change". Of course, many Nigerians(myself imclusive) subscribe to their political network of transformational agenda. Nigerians believed in them so quick because of the following reasons even though we know that politicians hardly stand by their words; (1. Many people are tired of Goodluck Johnathan administration that was characterised with obvious misgovernance, corruption of public officers glaring every now and then in media. (2. The administration nonchalant attitude in handling the insurgency in the North East Nigeria that was so pervasive to threatening the  whole country peace. (3. Buhari history of hard work, level of  integrity when serving in the public office earned him the public confidence. Thus people especially the poor everyday Nigerians believed he can effect a change when given the opportunity to serve in larger political arena of Nigeria as the president. These and other little reasons, were of course responsible for APC success in the 2015 general election. That said,  when the administration celebrate their one hundred days in office, on mentioning the success of the government, one of  the major area where they recorded success was on security. (The psychological victory  on war against Bokoharam ). After two years in  the office, nothing tangible could be recorded as the success of their administration;  economy was stagnant, recession, the hunger and starvation that characterised the poor Nigerians illustrates this claim. The war on Corruption was in total failure and the favoritism, partisan nature of fighting the so called "war on corruption" illustrates the failure of the core campaign promises  this administration propagated. Not sooner than Nigerians began to question most of the actions, deeds of this administration than the prominent propagandist and the lie promoter of this administration came up with a alternative to shut down the cries of the poor, silenced who voted them and reduced thier grieves into fizzle, when the information Minister Lai Muhammad lunch a "change begin with me" programme to cover the misdeeds, failure and misgovernance of this administration. I often do not support most of the policy of this administration, and this one is not an exception. If the "change begin with me" was to be construed as to mean that the  electorates will rise against the impunity that characterised this administration and say no to clueless leaders no more, only if they are sincere enough to say to the poor misguided who ignorantly elected them into offices, that  "change begin with me" objectives is to educate them on being wise in choosing their leaders, to enlight them that now is the time for the them to begin to have 'conditional love' for any politician(themselves inclusive),  only if the "change begin with me" was not another political tool to tricks the poor, blind them of the obligations that their leaders have over them, their rights to blame their leaders when they fail to deliver their campaign promises. Only if the "change begin with me" was not a psychological manipulation of minds that transfered the burden of the leaders duty to making the poor thinking that leaders are not meant to be blame, criticise, hate just because they are presented as some saints, Godly send leaders where their criticism will be regarded as blasphemy.
Only if all these I mentioned was not the intend of the "change begin with me", but sad enough . They are. That is why it can never serve the benefits of the poor. The way things are going with this administration,  everyday Nigerians will find it difficult if not impossible to trust. All our leaders don't come to corridors of power to avail the vulnerable people from their miserable lives which  deprived them from enjoying

CONCEPT OF PATRIOTISM; THE MYTHS AND DECEPTIONS

GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
By: Habibu Gente
Date: Monday , 02, October ,   2017

Sorry for the late post. This article is longer than usual, but it worth your read.
Happy independence day Nigerians
The ideology of "patriotism", how usefully it served as a valuable tool for the politicians to achieve their purpose of domination----- win the heart of their electorates. Patriotism is an attachment to a homeland . This attachment can be viewed in terms of different features relating to one's own homeland, including ethnic, cultural, political or historical aspects. It encompasses a set of concepts closely related to those of nationalism. An excess of patriotism in the defense of a nation is called chauvinism ; another related term is jingoism .
This concept has been used often by world governments, leaders in modern democracy to invest a false love in the hearts of their followers. So they fall in love with their countries unconsciously. And without a alternative door to dissolute the love attachment, any attempt to get divorce would be an act of unpatriotic which could, either be a treasonable felony or treason to the country depend on various countries' law regarding the offence. But what  is certain in every countries' legal systems is, the act is treated as a crime. Thus all the legal systems in the world ( especially those modern countries practicing capitalism, liberal democracy) frowned at the act and the victims of it,  do not receive any fairness when facing trials in the court of law. It means that the alleged victim of such a crime, usually have narrow or none option for bail, conditional bail, or even pardon. Brought to mind was the recent victim of the act in Nigeria ----- the former National Security Adviser to former president Goodluck Johnathan-- Col Dasuki who was alleged to have converted the suppose billions of dollars to buy Arms to combat Bokoharam menace in the North East Nigeria into his own pocket, he is currently rotting in jail for some time. Many human rights activist lawyers and none lawyers alike, were put in the state of confusion as to why he was thrown in jail despite numerous cries on his behalf to grant him bail. Although he was charged with offences bordering on corruption, the federal government has left no one in doubt that his trial is political. All the offences against him are bailable. After pleading not guilty, he was accordingly granted bails by three different high courts and the ECOWAS Community Court but the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has refused to obey the court orders. Even the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu who was charged with treasonable felony, an offence That is not ordinarily bailable was allowed to go on bail. No bewilderment , Dasuki's offence  was measured in loyalty point view and the law has compelled the society to see such actions through the lens of concept of patriotism. But where the Federal government attitude appeared vague, was why Nnamdi Kanu's offence wasn't view through the same lens as Dasuki's. The legality or otherwise of the two binary cases, I will reserve that to my senior learned colleagues to deliberate.
In most modern countries  today, the concept of patriotism is used to force many soldiers into a battle field to fight with their lives. Some die, sustained injuries that often lead to disability, or became paralysed and yet the family that lost their beloved husband, child, brother or father were only asked to be proud and not to grieve over their lost. Because their deceased at least did not die in vain, as he they die as heroes. Funny enough,  the only compensation for their lost would be some tiny velvet or statue of them erected with a sign of patriotism. Such velvets or erected statue would be in a public areas for the families to see, and to them it would be some consolation the aggrieved families would be compensated with.

UNITED NIGERIA :MY DREAM COUNTRY

         GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
BY:
HABIBU GENTE
DATE:  Sunday, 23, September  , 2017

I wrote this few months ago. But with the rising tension threatening our nation unity, I felt the need to repost this article with the hope it will soften the broken hearts of Nigerians. Enough! .
Before I could able to deal with my conflicting ideas which for long fought a duel in my mind, in the course, two vital questions continuously percolating in my brain, inter alia;  I used asked myself.
1. Is Nigeria a nation where even an infant child born in a era of brightness in which the light of a new dawn of suppose progressive and united country dominated the darkness of past war and disunity. And yet he grew up in despondency and hopelessness , and still believe the future is bleak filled with uncertainties?.
2. Or is Nigeria a nation where an unfortunate child was born in an epitome of divided nation, and bottom of escalation of war in the most horrifying and tragic of never-ending conflicts and thirst for vengeance which threaten the foundation of newly-born country and fells the four walls of the nation. And yet believe that one day, there will come a time when all our differences will be burned down and the grievances wipe out and we will sit in the same roof to discuss a platform that will move the nation forward as one indivisible and indissoluble nation. A time when job opportunities and equal rights on education and in political participation will be purely based on merits and embodiments’ of justice and trust.
But it wasn't long to eliminate these thoughts when I read about the revolutionary journey of Muhammad El-Gaddafi to Africa in pursuant of his dreams united Africa. And a book written by a Nigerian retired Military officer by the name Sam Momoh.  "NIGERIA BEYOND DIVORCE".
Of course,  like the late Libya President Gaddafi's dream of United Africa. I have inchoate ideal of united Nigeria one day in our history. Gaddafi's dreams of uniting the whole African countries, economically, socially, politically and ideologically was a fruitless struggle. Not because Africa was too big to unite nor was it economically weak,  but Gaddafi wasn't able to actualize his dreams because of the incompatibility of different ideologies that operate in different countries of Africa continent.  Gaddafi couldn't have make it through because of his adherence to socialism that antagonize the capitalism which has been for decades weaving in most of the powerful Africa countries. Though the speculative misinterpretation of his speeches and talks that were construed as to he wanted to islamize Africa. That too,  contributed to the failure of  realizing his dreams united Africa. Unlike Gaddafi, I'm not a socialist nor did I subscribed to all the theories of capitalism. I'm a moderate who stand in between the two ideologies. I believe that both can be apply moderately to produce a positive change in the situation of a country and its people. Like Gaddafi I believe that one day we will be free from the chains of imperialism and do away with the influence of neocolonialism in our political views and scope. I have a dream in Nigeria that one day all our differences will be solved and we will have mutual understanding and decent respect for one another. My dream united Nigeria where all these constant hatred of one ethnic group against the other will be wiped out from our hearts, the ingrained lack of trust between ourselves will be no more and we will sit in a single  room knowing that we are dinning and discussing with our brothers, and the ideological views we held with high esteem will be respected and protected.  No more barrier between religion,  tribal or ethnic groups. No more bokoharam, kidnapping, sexual exploitation, child trafficking, abduction,  niger Delta avengers, IPOB,  Massob or eviction notice to ibos. My dream Nigeria where there will be no virus of corruption of politicians

DEVASTATING BRIDGE; BROKEN HEARTS OF THE NIGERIA PEOPLE

  GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,

Many of course, commented on the trending doom looming around the atmosphere of the once frail United country (NIGERIA ). Some said that the marriage was so fragile that it would be difficult for the relationship to last more a century, others take it as a solid marriage ties. The two views can be divided into ---  pessimists and optimists.  Those who believe in the latter, are very rare to find. Such are those heroes of this nation who fought with their lives (regardless of ethnicity, religion or region) just to liberate our land and give its people---the upcoming generations a dignified, decent living in a pure, conducive environment and a peaceful air to breath in and to strive for ends meet. Unity, tolerance, and progress was their mantra they sing in schools, public gatherings, hospitals. Children in those days went to public schools not because they had no option but, because their parents believed it is the only channel where their dreams of unity, peace and tolerance would be realise. Those who believe in the former, such are the restricted thinkers, half or non educated, history heedless, vested interest,  power mongers etc. This second category of people are naturally insatiable due to their unrealistic demands to feed their selfish hearts and souls. This brought us to the current reality we are facing in this country in recent times ---- insurgency, kidnapping, sexual exploitation, secessionist threat, IPOB issues, Arewa Youth quit notice threat etc all these impeding gloom frustrated the unity wall and threatened to break the sacred marriage of our beloved country.
While many commentators both in media and social media seem to have pointed out one old source as the problem of all these crisis, to me they are not far from being farfetched. Though I am not in any way saying that those things are not among the root of our country's problem, as the matter of fact, they are. But in my own view, our major problem is 'injustice'. This single injustice was the major root of the problems Nigerians faced and still facing today, all other problems are the branches and fruits of the same root problem ----'injustice'. It is lack of justice and fairness that would make someone or some part of the country felt marginalised, oppressed, sidelined politically, socially, economically, and even religiously. And those who perpetrate this injustice are our politicians who lack the humane feelings, unpatriotic leaders and self centered bunch of professional thieves, pen robbers. They only invest in their interest ------children, wives and concubines. And thrust away the interests of their supposed people who elected them into those offices. The earlier  our politicians came back into their right senses, think and act like patriotic citizens, behave like leaders and not like rulers or tyrants. The sooner we have peace, love and stability in this sorry nation of ours. The good people of Nigeria, hard working and peace loving citizens,  our problems in this country isn't these outer surface of IPOB, insurgency, kidnapping Arewa youths quit notice etc. Our politicians are our biggest problem. And as long as we keep on blaming ourselves for the problem none of us the ordinary everyday Nigerians have no hand in, the more we would continue to sunk deep in the ocean of the violence, intolerance, civil disobedience and innocent killings. Are we still enjoying the swimming  in our ignorance of the 'vested interest' involvement in our problems and continue to fight a war the cause we least understand, a war that is psychologically beyond us?. It is sad!, very sad indeed!.

The lost child stories series

Continuation
THE RUNAWAY
*         *          *         *         *           *          *          *        *
Yaru woke from momentarily, of what is rather a brief sleep. He arrived at the building, feeling so tired. He was starving like a caged tiger that was deliberately denied of food, to suppress her of the aggressiveness to hurt someone. He could not explain his stomach,  the rumblings noises is so unintelligible to differentiate between hunger and sleep. All so mixed up that what he felt wasn't tiredness that would have put him completely in a deep sleep. But fatigue body feelings and souring of stomach.  His sleep was half awake, half dozing. Though his body weakness would not allowed him to react as quick as his sleep suggest. His sleeping was interrupted by a sound at the other end of the building. He couldn't tell from the sound who or what makes such noise, yet he is sure that something is coming. The sounds echoing toward his direction where he laid still, his heart shuddered. "Who will that be, the mads or something more dangerous". He made a mental guess. "Whatever it is, I will confront it. I should better die struggling to save myself,  than wait to get killed without an attempt to survive". Showing bravery in his heart for a fight which he knows he will not win. But to satisfy his survival instinct, he has to get rid of such thought of losing a surviving  battle.
The sound came more closer to his hideout. He moved to adjust his spread legs, parked them. Loose his hands from the cheeks to make him appear more ready for the fight,  he lifted his back against the wall he was leaning on. Just before he could stand up for more stamina, a voice shouted suddenly. "Who are you, madman?", It follows with a long guffaw. With the this question,  Yaru muscles weak. He couldn't get up, rather he clung against the wall tide out of sudden fear. The mad came sight full with him, the appearance was rather little rough. Wore a robe gown, half tore at the back side between the spinal cord and the waist. And the rest intact. Black in colour with only the chest side which was decorated with a brown stylish colour,  the cloth not too dirty as it supposed. The head was carelessly left uncovered, which makes the hair more disgusting and uncurl multiple colours. No shoes on, except the covered gray dust that gathered around the foot as a result of the bare foot walking on the streets.  "Madman, answer me", shouted the mad again upon the silence of Yaru.
" I'm not a madman", Yaru managed to say. Amidst the fear of being strangled.
The mad moved near again, and now with a akimbo walking like a champion of athlete in point of receiving an award.
"If you are not a madman, then what are you", said the mad. With yet again long but scourge laugh. Making more advance to Yaru position,  Yaru took steps backwards in preparation of running.
"I'm sane and sound", Yaru said. With the intention to answer no more further questions. But to run off to a more safer place.
"No, you are not, but a madman", said the mad. "Only our kinds are living in this building".
Yaru thought to himself." am I mad, she is right i am now living with the mads. I'm not. Only a lone wanderer,  that is who I am. And not a mad person".
"Do not run, I will not hurt you". Said the mad. With a serious voice. "You think all mads are aggressive?, do not think so my son".
Upon hearing my son,  Yaru nerves became weak. Why would this woman called him her son, a mad woman. He could not believe her, may be she is luring him to catch him. Yaru stood there, without a word nor either move to her or run away. But continued to stared at her with bizarre attention.
"Come on my son, fear not", said the mad woman. "You are home now, make yourself at home".
The way the mad woman talks lately,  makes Yaru not only confused but, also fearful. He know that his mother was dead long time ago, and he was told that deaths doesn't raise after they were buried.

The lost child stories parts

 THE  RUNAWAY
Yaru made his way down to the large corner of a stretchedout uncompleted building. The debris that covered the mould sandy rocks, spread across the four angles of the fallen walls. Dense sands of the red soil were parked in different places, those as a result of the holes dug out by some big rats. These made the place more rough. Rags, tore sacks,  and some empty soft drinks rubber bottles were carelessly thrown everywhere, even make the whole place to be dirtier than Yaru thought it could be.  The urine of both animals and humans, give the place foul smell. As for mad people, they sleep there, eat, drink and as well excreted in the same place. No place could be more suitable for them, than here, in a uncompleted or demolished buildings. Such places are the nature gift they enjoyed. A society where there is no government regulated asylums to accommodate mad people, they roam about everywhere in the towns. And when night inject, they find a place to stay till next day break before another routine. That is a life for them, but they enjoy it, endured all pressure of the world. And when they closed their eyes,  they slept  off their worries, washed them over their dreams from the peaceful undisturbed sleeping they patently received from the crashed buildings.
Yaru sluggishly reclined to one of the surviving  walls, sat unconformtably on a half broke stone. He leaned  against the wall that is just a inch up above  his head. Should he stand up to rest,  he would be taller than the wall. Which means that, exposing himself to the dangers of the aggressive madmen who may likely harm him. His strength to defend himself is not there, nor does he even have the mood or spirit of fighting. To play safe and enjoy his temporary stay here, he has to be quiet and be hidden to avoid the sight of his new founded aggressive neighbours.
Little bit more of his sounds would produce careless exposure to the alarming dangers that await him just outside his hideout.
Now everything has gone from him. His family, little brothers at home, his father. All were gone for good. Now he thought about them, he is sure they would forget that  he existed. One person that would have been thinking about him, since his departure, would be his mother. She would remember every minutes of his life, thought about him. And she would pray for  him every night before she retired to bed. And when she woke up,  he would be the first person that would rushed in her mind.  And she would pursed  to ask her Lord for his success and safe survival in a strange land. But she is not more, her ancestors claimed her before Yaru came into an age. When she left the world,  he felt emptiness own family would be so  wicked to have allowed him to wander in the wilderness of childhoods loneliness in  a strange land. But this is what is happening with him now,  a poor lone child wanderer. Seven weeks since he left his family,  no one look for him. Nor any attempt was made to even ask of his whereabouts. Not even his once caring and lovely father.  With this little experience,  the mystery of life begins to reveals itself to him. It is now that some of the sayings of his mother were making sense to him. She would have say 'the world is wicked, not because the earth is dangerous to live. But those who supposed to do what they can, aren't doing it'. The saying is very vivid in his current situation.  His world now become wicked just because his father who supposed to do his duty of a father,  fiend from them. Of course,  the earth has no problem. Because he could see other children out there,  going to school everyday,  shopping mall, play games station with their parents. And when  they walk, their frequently smiles at each other,  approved a happy  family life.
Those who think humans are temperamental to each other, were wrong. Or at least could  not have accert so, only if they knew the life after their generation would be different from theirs. And if some of them would still

                                       WHO CARES FOR HIM?

In the middle of the night, in a circle of young teenagers all from a single parents.  A boy raised a challenging question and directed it to his father, in whose instructions they were asking anything that came into their minds.
"Father". The boy called, his eyes were glimmering with the innocence. "When shall we go back to school?".
The father adjusted his sitting posture.
"My son, very soon". He answered.
He further not more in giving the answer.  The boy was not expecting such a short answer from his father.  Although,  even with his childish experience,  he knew that his father usually showed a scanty interest on education.  And anytime he speaks about the topic, he do so it with dispassionate tune. And a disturbing facial expressions.
"Father how long shall we wait?". The boy asked again. This time with a confusioned serious voice.
"Not longer than necessary my child". He said, knowing too well that the boy would not be satisfied.  Especially when his disinterested tune was obvious on the discussion.
"Father we want to go back to school.  All our mates are now changing classes by classes and leaving us behind". The boy said, his voice sounding sorrowful.
He knows that no matter how much he tried to convince the boy to understand the situation on ground impeding their retuning to school, he wouldn't understand.  It may be because of his little level of maturity, or just he doesn't want to listen to any excuse to justify their dropout from school.
Still he will found  a way to put it to him in the  best he could understand.
"Don't worry you my children". He managed to consoled them.  "When the right time come, you will all go back to school. And maintain your classes. But, before then, work hard in the farm, get much money and you will all return to school".
"Father you shouldn't mind Yaru". Another boy said proudly,  sitting just opposite to their father. "We don't want to go back to school, we want to farm, get much money and when we grow up to maturity,  we will marry and have children like you father ".
"Talk for yourself, Waru". Yaru exclaimed, "except you. All of us wanted to go back to school".
"Enough!". Father warned.  "It is a simple thing, let do it this way. He suggested.
"Those who want to farm with me, should come. We are together from now onwards. And I will take their full responsibilities.  As for those of you who to go back to school, there is your way. But get one thing straight. Remember you are on your own, and if you insisted, never though again in your minds that you have a father".
"Now who still want to go back to school?". He asked sarcastically,  challenging them.
All of them,  except Yaru, fall on the party of their father.
"We will farm with you father". They all said in chorus.
"And you Yaru". Asked the father again.
"I want school,  so I will go back to school". Said Yaru. He knew that he is not matured enough to shoulder his own responsibility nor is he have the capacity to sponsor himself. Without the help of his only  parent, his dreams and hope of going back to school, is nothing far from nurturing a vague hope.
"Brave of you, Yaru.". Said the father.  "There we come, take your own way to sponsor yourself,  and never think you can get a dime from me. No or ever".
Yaru as a teen young boy, who struggled to bearly finished his primary school. Now has to face financial hurdles to continue his education to at least a secondary school level. His too young to defy his father's world of dependency; feeding and clothing.  And dare to live in the world of self reliance and self - help.  A world where he will enjoy absolute autonomy and freedom. But the life that spread ahead of the dark road of dreams, is a fragile world full of uncertainties.  Success as well as failure depend on the courage to believe in himself,  even though everything seem on uncertain. Yaru hope of getting back to school after his primary school,  was one he admiringly like to think about. But now

EQUALITY IN EDUCATION; THE MYTHS AND IDEALS ( II)

      GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
By: Habibu Gente

Blogger : Habibugente.blogspot.com

Previous week, we have seen briefly what is education.  Defined the concept of "equality". This week I  will now connect the two words, thus we will see after, the read whether equality exist in our educational system or not. Secondly,  it will be clear to us whether the word "patrioticism" is an  ideology that we need to hold dearly. Or is it merely yet another political designed- deceptive tool to get innocent citizens to fight and die for just few elites?, thinking they were defending their beloved country. While this said, let take the journey through the recent  happenings in our political world.
I hope you are not expecting a well reached academic article. If you are, I fear. You maybe disappointed. For all I attempted to do here, is to analyse how I view the concept of "equality" as virtually the opposite of what is conceived by the government to our educational system.   You will forgive me, if what you see is below your expectations.
When the phrase  equality of education  is pronounced , our minds quickly rushed to mean, that everyone is entitled to same rights and opportunities. No, it was misperceived. For entitlement to same rights and opportunities to education,  its mean that justice is done to everyone. But how can justice survive without equality.
Justice means for instance, if two people steal. Mr A stole a goat worth three thousands naira, and Mr B stole cash of three thousands naira. While the punishment for stealing of money is two weeks jail with a fine of five thousand naira. If they were both arraigned in the court of law, and the judge convicted them in accordance with the penalty for stealing money. That both of them, two weeks jail and a fine of five thousand naira. Here the court did justice to them based on their charges as the law said. But is there equality?, No. By sentencing one who stole a goat worth the money stole by someone who stole the money in cash, is never a equal treatment.  Rather they all received justice but not equality. It has to be a thief who stole goat should be arraigned of course, like the other thief. For the satisfaction of "justice". But they are not be sentenced to a equal term of jail. Equality would be done to them, if the goat thief was sentenced to the two weeks term jail without the fine of five thousand naira.
Now we can see from these fictional case of two convicted thieves, that they received "justice" but they were not treated "equally". Let us now turn back to our educational system having in mind these sinario narrated above. If really in schools we are all treated equally as the natural laws of the land dictated.
In schools, colleges and universities many people with different backgrounds, experience and understanding are put in the same class room. Without considering the their level of understanding, nor take into cognition the level of their intelligence.  For instance, in a class there might be three set of groups of students; natural genius, intelligent and duller. All these categories of students are merged in a single class for learning the same thing. And their facilitator would be expecting them to learn, assimilate and comprehend at the same span of time. Thereafter, give them the same test and expecting equal performance from them. Isn't it unfair?,

PART-THREE:PROBLEM -SOLVING WAYS FOR NIGERIANS TO FOLLOW

BY:
Habibu Gente
DATE: Saturday,
A continuation of last weekend column.
Still on the political ways on how some of our problems will be solved.
3.     Federal Character: Government should terminate the evil of so called ‘federal character’. Although,  there may be a wisdom  behind the entrenchment of it in our constitution, the draft men on their wisdom looked the society at that time, the challenges the country might have been confronted with and resolve to introduce the federal character because the country at that time was very young independent nation. Surely,  they were right at that time to considered that mechanism for equal participation in government for every region, thus not merit determine the domination of a particular people in public offices rather political population. Having justified their reasons at that time,  in our today's society we need not this mechanism because we are now matured in our independence, the educational system are now far advance than it was in our 60s, 70s for every region in the country have far better qualified people based on educational merit which is why the 'federal character ' wouldn't do good in the country's politics than the bad. For it did a lot of damages and brought setbacks in our country. { it may be is not suitable and adoptable in Nigeria}. ‘federal character’ always give room in providing incompetent, selfish, and unpatriotic  leaders in the government or even unready individuals for leadership. Which in turn, is decaying and killing the spirit of our country politics.
The legislature should find a good alternative for the federal character and replace it with something better. Because the president or top government officials are usually thrust into a dilemma when  they are to choose between two potential would-be public servants in his cabinet because he his constrained by 'federal character' remaining him that he should look on equal participation rather than choose based on merit /qualities. If we should be honest with ourselves this mechanism is bad than it is good especially in our country that is crying for honest,  competent and clue leaders in the government.  If we are to be constrained by federal character it will be very hard if not impossible to produce leaders and public servants with such qualities.
4.    General citizenship for states: government and other legal agencies should try to invent and adopt what is called ‘free citizenships’ that is every state in Nigeria should entrenched in their ‘states laws’ that so far you are a citizen of Nigeria that legal validity so stated in the constitution  federal republic of Nigeria by the virtue of it you are automatically citizen of every states in Nigeria. I think if that should be granted, a native of Anambra knowing  that he can feels freely like home in Kano with all the rights, obligations and privileges being given to him as when he is in Anambra. And vice versa. Surely the magic will work, unity, respect, tolerance, love, understanding, justice, equality and fairness will reign in the country as united Nigeria.

EQUALITY IN EDUCATION; THE MYTHS AND IDEALS

By Habibu Gente
 Twitter :@Habibugente

The mantra of equality in education at is were from reception,  is a yet another political tricks used as valuable tool by the leaders on the minds of the masses. It is this very ideal concept that successfully deleted the doubt that would have been casted on the hearts of the followers, and since the tool achieve it purpose of manipulation of minds and psychological subjugation, thereafter the followers end up being programed to praise the misdeeds of their leaders and  ignorantly commending their insincere political execution.
Now let look what is education and what  taste of 'equality' does it have in it, I'm sure by the end of the read you will believe with me that the concept equality is falsely misconstrued.  Another major element that promote the concept is the misleading word 'patrioticism' you will equally see how patrioticism was falsely used to take advantage of the masses to believe in their misdeeds. These words and concepts for so long misguided the masses to adhere to the tenets of their oppressors' false political ideology, and which built  immeasurable love,  obedience and royalty they have for their oppressors.
Education is the art of  imparting knowledge, skills and  judgement.  Or education is a gradual process of acquiring knowledge. And this can be of two type,  there is informal way of education.  Which is facts and ideas that are learned from home with parents as the custodian. Thus a child learned facts like; there is world, life, illness, health, poor class and rich class, male and female,  love and hatred, and that humans are born and eventually the end journey is death  there are humans as well as animals and plants living alongside each other on earth. Child learned skills like; eating, drinking,  talking, mode of dressing,  etc. Formal way of education this is acquired from a formal settings like schools.  A child acquired knowledge and ideas for self improvement and teachers as the instructors. Thus child learned ideas like; the concept of universe, nature, God, life and death,  moral codes,  and a formal  skills like;  reading and writing,  speaking of the official language of the education system,  reality of world through its philosophy,  psychology, sociology, laws of the land, science and lot more.
The concern for this exercise is the formal education.  Now let look at what is equality  and how scholars and philosophers over time defined the concept, and how it served as the  tenet to  every philosopher foundation for their philosophical treatise.
Worldweb defined equality as the quality of being the same in quantity, measure, value or status. Thomas Acquinas said justice and equality means "a firm and constant will to give to each one his due and be absolutely treated same"
The republic Plato said " Everything or person had its proper sphere of justice and equality and that equality meant conforming to that sphere".
Guided by these philosophers' views and other numerous similar views of many other scholars, it is safe to say the concept of equality in our educational system is far better away from justice and equality it's seek to achieve by bringing together individuals of different angles of lives with different backgrounds, experience, class, and challenges in a single platform called school. It goes without the philosophical question about equality that;   "is treating unequals equally a tantamountto justice? ".

NIGERIA POLITICAL SIEGE : THE TALE OF A JOKE-NATION

The introduction of N-power by this administration to unemployed youths is a development we have to appreciate. At least  it gave some sort of relief to the crying unemployment rate rumbling in the country. However, to me N-power is not  solution to the alarming unemployment rate. What good will it do to a young graduate knowing that he will be only employ temporarily without security of lasting on the job?. Though,  it is a step forward. We are living in a time when most of burning issues that needed to be given critical attention were given a deaf ears by the government. Critical agitation that seek to threaten our living as one United nation for a long time like; igbo quit notice by Arewa youths,  Kanu's Biafra agitation, Taraba genocide, clash of herdsmen, rising kidnapping and economic harshness many everyday Nigeria suffering from. Astonishingly, this  administration is busy with 2019 election winning strategy, and attending of wealthy marriages. Nigeria was a joke nation long before thus administration,  but currently have promoted to a mock- theatre with politician as the clowns making the theatre more lively with lucrative comedies. This administration mockery shows would be justified in recent numerous criminal trials against high profile politicians in the lower courts. It is only in country like Nigeria that  a federal government will prosecute a political-criminal while the prosecutors seem not ready for the case after all the waste of resources to pursue the case. Imagine if Saraki is in a different country not Nigeria, he would have been in a dungeon prison steels where his bones will be gnawed to flesh. But fortunately for him and other similar numerous criminals like him, are under the protection of aso- rock and protected mansion. They were and still be celebrated as the successful and accomplished  individuals of the country, many people are looking over them as their role models,  heroes. Very bad indeed. Nigeria is a joke-nation with a  geographical entity of mockery-theatre. It is only in Nigeria that a criminal will be charged with over thirty counts and yet scale through all of them in single sitting because the federal government as the prosecution could not proved their case beyond the minimum criminal ingredients, and upon all allegations, media conviction and nationwide cry against the sluggishness of the trial, he filled "no case submission ". Now the mantra of every criminal charges against a politician, is "no case submission ", it has now become the "scale free trick" of this administration.  Funny. It is only in a joke-nation that professional and career thieves/criminals (Nigeria politicians ) will be free discharged and acquitted in a court of law, while petty first timer thieves (those who stole goats, food to feed themselves  ) are wallowing  in prisons without conviction. What a mockery of our criminal justice system!. People like Zakzky and Co. Are suffering in jail for months now because of what one scholar used called "imprisonment of conscience". Voicing out his opinion and promoting his religious beliefs, while notorious violence promoters like Nmandi Kanu were granted bail by the court and the federal government obeyed the decision.  The question is why the government refused to honored that of Zakzky's bail?. Intriguing right?. It wouldn't be long before this administration will do appointments, give privileges, sacks, and protect citizens  base on their religious ideologies and sectarianism.

UNITED NIGERIA :MY DREAM COUNTRY

         GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
BY:
HABIBU GENTE
DATE:  Sunday, 25 June , 2017

My dream Nigeria where there will be no virus of corruption of politicians, public officers , where the empowering of and educating masses will be the first priority of the leaders.  A Nigeria where our institutions will stand strong against all odds and say NO to impunity and

AREWA YOUTHS QUIT NOTICE TO IBOS; MY MESSAGE TO NIGERIAN YOUTHS

The aim of this write up isn't to elaborate on our past history nor to give a sermon on who is right or wrong,  or which side is dominating and the one dominated, rather it is to give a clear picture of who and what our politicians are and how they politicalised everything in this country. And to let the youths  know that their leaders who are pushing them to clamored or incite violence, is to their gain and at the expense of those who will be use as machineries(everyday Nigerians) . Those politicians have nothing to lose,  because it will be another profit to their "vested interest " and their business as usual "privatization of public funds into their own pockets".
The wave of the yet another incarnation of1967 gory history of Nigeria is about to melt the unity storm that unconditionally bind us together. Last week news headlines was so terrifying,  and shocked most concern Nigerians. The quite notice message by Arewa youth forum to the Ibos to vacate the North and park back to their region. with August as the death line. The pro- Biafra agitators (IPOB,  Kanu's Jewish Prophethood Pranks) all these unpleasant noises and stinking clamoring produced horrific and pandemonium air of hopelessness on Nigeria dream of promoting national unity and prosperous future for our children to harvest in the riches of our country's Godgiving wealth.
I read many comments on the burning issue on ground postulated by some social commentators. From both sides, to this end I don't have to say anything else. Just to let my Muse to wet my immature intellectualism on the issue, I will adopt some of the good but careful intellectualism displayed by one highly educated traditional ruler; the Emir of Kano; Emir Muhammad Sunusi II. On his lengthy but educative essay,  his royal Highness made mentioned of one most important and at the same time deceptive common weapon our selfish politicians use to dismantle the conscience of the masses that will allow them to see the oppressive nature of the so-called leaders and consequently, the politico- psychological manipulation drugs intoxication that forced the youths to enter into a war. The cause of which they know nothing about,  the motives behind it and to fight  a war with their blood  a battle that is psychologically and physically beyond them (he said the sefish politicians are the "common enemy" of the masses). So let us fight them and not to kill ourselves. Alas,  who will blame them?. Their oppressors for so long ingrained in them the politico-psychological manipulation drugs which intoxicated them and retarded their conscience and intellect to reason well before they agreed to fight a war that doesn't belong to them. Or before they innocently kill themselves while their oppressors sit from a protective mansions to watch while they were slay and maimed right in front of their doors.
There isn't good name for "wrong" bad is bad no matter what name we give to it.  It is still "Bad". All these pro- Biafra agitators, IPOB, Niger Delta avengers..... Etc and Northern Youths Forum,  Arewa Youth to all other premature groups calling for break out or divisions I considered them as those who are heedless to history especially gory past of our country.
Please the good people of this country let not politicians use you to invest in their "vested interest" which is to expense of we the masses.  "Children of nobody". That is why you are in the school to be educated and be different from those who go no school. Never allow you to be exploited by those selfish politicians whose sole business is their pockets and well-being of their children who went abroad to study while you are here in dilapidated institutions and rotting educational systems.

THE QUEST FOR BARUTEN POLITICAL FREEDOM

                 GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,

HABIBU GENTE
DATE:  Saturday, 3  June , 2017

While Kwara State is rotting away from underdevelopment and lack of youth empowerment, Baruten local government is devastating politically and deprived from equal political participation, educational opportunities and equal privileges related to public offices in the State. Baruten was for a very long time ago subjugated by the State policies, that one could not help but think they are isolated from Kwara State or from Nigeria as a country. I used to think as i was growing up in the mix of valley of segregation and storm of inequality of political privileges that clouded over Kwara State politics, that do we have representatives?, or are we so sidelined in Kwara State that we couldn't have the  national rights access to the monthly allocation allotted to every local governments of the country?. As an innocent child these are questions I do ask my pure and confused mind often,  to which I could not get satisfied answers,  nor was I able to make sense out of the lingering questions about Baruten abandonment. Until I came into age and maturing on how politics work in this country.
Of course this degeneration of Baruten Local government, isn't only one way traffic of blame. Our politicians supposedly representing the locality are they themselves the most clueless leaders that ever walk in the corridor of power. Their insensitivity and myopia political planes and ideas are obviously apparent in the lack of basic necessities for decent living of their people;  unapologetic disconnection from information about the State and country's politics, lack of any recognize higher institutions( like NCE,  UNIVERSITY OR TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTE),  lack of electricity connection, lack or no communities boreholes, dilapidated public schools etc.
   The following are some of basics things Baruten needs for its political emancipation and development;
1.   Effective information;  No nation and people could survive from political manipulation instinct by their oppressors without effect and independent communication miss like Radios stations, Tv Stations and other effective miss of passing information. Baruten is in dare  need of Standard Radios and Tv Stations that can communicate with the people and update them about their country's politics and news with the language they understand. If this could be done in one year Baruten people will free themselves from the age-long subjugation.
2.    Establishment of higher institutions;  The root of every development of any people and nation is good background of education programs. How could a nation achieve that,  is by nurturing of public schools which is the foundation of education, and then establishment of NCEs,  Universities and Technical institutes. All these are lacking in Baruten local government area. Save only the crying private affiliated institutions which themselves are not sufficient to cover the whole locality. Baruten need standard training institutions and not affiliated ones that do not guarantee effective learning.  And often times sought to kills the morals of youths engagement in academic excellence thus, patently produced half-baked graduates and 'no-go better school students'.
SHARE IT UNTIL IT REACH THE RIGHT AUTHORITIES.  #FOR BARUTEN POLITICAL EMANCIPATION.

BUKOLA AND HIS PUPPETS PROMOTED FROM 'POSITIVE CHANGE' TO 'FREEDOM'

      GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
BY:
HABIBU GENTE
DATE:  Saturday, 26 May, 2017.

Anytime I visit my hometown I shed tears of despair And despondent.  Although my feelings of hopelessness Is all about Nigeria situation as whole,  especially with the clueless APC administration that with every day is a step backward to where we left for so long. Kwara state is a place of despair especially when you look what other states government are doing for their people, which range from town development,  rehabilitation program, nurturing of state education and empowerment of youths.  Is so annoying that Bukola and his puppet Fatai's administration fooling the good people of Kwara in their campaign of freedom. It is funny,  and a mockery to the sensitivity of good people of Kwara. Pre-election of 2015 the mantra was 'positive change' and now post-election is 'Freedom ' the question is freedom from who or what? ,is it a freedom of manipulation or freedom against Political education?  Which of the freedom are Bukola and his puppets deceptively supposedly Agitating for Kwarans?.
It is so disgusting how these miscreants politicians subject Kwarans and reduced its citizens into a life of lower animals (sorry to say). The psychological manipulation and mental enslavement forced the people to bow for their oppressors and hail their misdeeds. Bukola is the most wicked -worst and merciless politician of modern Nigeria politics to have ever walk in the corridors of power. Kwarans are 'prisoners of conscience ' No one could talk, express his opinion against Bukola dictatorship nor question Fatai's puppetism governance that is making waves in the ocean of underdevelopment,  degenerated public service,  dilapidated public schools, decays public health, rotting inadequate water supply,  inconsistent electricity supply in the capital city and no-access electricity for towns outside the capital metropolis.
Bukola's Big Brother style of manipulation of Kwara State is beyond the ordinary human thinking,  the Big brother in Orwell's time his is less harmful and less threatening than the Bukola inherent Big brother rulership. Like Orwell's big brother Bukola image is everywhere anytime in the mind of his puppets -worshippers that if they could decide for the public welfare and development Bukola's image and name keep on resounding in their hearts and minds telling them that to develop the State and to prioritize the welfare of the citizens is not the priority of their 'Big Brother' so they shudder not to lose their position. It is the fear of the Big Brother that no public worker could have the gust to cry about the cutting of their salaries that was thwarted by twenty percent,  pensioners could not agitate for their rights over unsustainable money that is paid for their public service they offered during their service days which is scraped by thirty percent. Bukola make Kwarans in their State a living hell,  Kwara State in under the rulership of modern 'Big Brother ' who possess all the qualities of Stalinist dictatorship of;  psychological manipulation that every sensible person could not decry against subjugation of centuries of dictatorship in modern liberal Democracy government of twenty first century .I'm sure even this piece of writing many people (of course those of whom are directly affected. I.e  civil servants) will fear-die and scold me why I write this against the 'Big Brother ' of Kwara State. To tell you how effective the psychological manipulation of Bukola invisible rulership derail the minds of the majority of Kwarans educated and non-educated alike. But it can't work on me,  and that is the reason behind my writing. Because no one seem to care nor write or talk to save innocent victims from Bukola's Stalinist rulership. It dawn on me that someone has to have the moral courage to check the excess of the tyrants and tyranny of Bukola and his puppet Fatai's Administration.

PART-FOUR:PROBLEM -SOLVING WAYS FOR NIGERIANS TO FOLLOW

5.       Patriotic and conscious leadership: Nigeria as a nation need vibrant and active politicians  who are selfish less and patriotic that can hold this country together with their power of political ideas. For so long Nigeria political leaders are too myopic and naïve to think and change the country for better. Nigeria major problems in the last two decades is bad leadership skills and voting of not-ready individuals into critical positions in the government. This issue of incompetent leaders landed us to the land of joke-nation where clueless and insensitive politicians vie with one another presentation of comical political ideas and poor management of public funds in TVs and our mockery-theatre country called Nigeria.
6.        Illiteracy: This disease is one of the most evil thing if exist in excess in any society, it will engineer poverty, self-hatred, and self- destruction which will drive such person into barbarous acts and behavior. And much more consolidate underdevelopment. Bad for the citizens, it will be a tool for selfish politicians to oppress the masses {working class} and eventually deprive them of their least rights {right to free and decent life }. Nigeria politicians and leaders alike hold this precious rights of the citizens knowing too well that whenever they provide sound education for the people {masses} they will be civilized and enlightened enough to see what other countries leaders are doing for their citizens whose interest they represent in government. Thus citizen will be well-informed and be incessant in agitation for their God-given deserved rights. Illiteracy as bad as it may sound to the ears is like a rotting egg in pottery barn if fail to fished it out it will affect the others good ones and the whole eggs will either start smelling and the pottery barn will begin stinking and if someone has to come in your pottery he will not be convinced that it is a single rotting egg that produces the whole stunk that the pottery generate. In Nigeria this is the case because of government inability to deal with alarming rate of illiteracy, and the rotting egg begun to stunk up it appears that all Nigerians are illiterates. If the government did not something about it then, even twenty years to come Nigeria will be rate among the poorest and higher level of illiteracy no matter how developed we may think we are in those years.
7.             Poverty of the masses: poverty as bad it may sound is the root of every wars, riots, conflicts, protests virtually anywhere they occurred. The menace poverty do course is beyond the outer surface its name denotes. That is why most of the developed nations in the world today make it mandatory as first priority to fight and wipe away poverty from their country heart. Because if one person is hungry he will do all evils things you cant imagine with your ordinary sense. If poverty is not eradicated in this country at least to minimum, nothing will work and we will always be in total failure in whatever we try. It is poverty that make many students fail exams, to steal,  it brought rampant kidnapping,  arm robbery , tugging on mother Parks etc.  In fact poverty negative effects are beyond the few things I mentioned.  Because every root of war or civil violence that occurred in any place of the world poverty and hunger has its share contributed towards its incitement and escalation.

8.            Religion tolerance:Their should and most be for every religion rights and tolerance to practice it everywhere in the country. Let everyone have freedom of thoughts and practice his own beliefs system either in single or in congregation, and in private or in public as it is entrenched in the constitution of federal republic of Nigeria.

PART-TWO:PROBLEM -SOLVING WAYS FOR NIGERIANS TO FOLLOW

GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
BY:
HABIBU GENTE
DATE:  Saturday, 06 May, 2017.
A continuation of last weekend column.
2.   Separate religion from politics;  the issue of relating politics with religion has been the cause of Nigerian political degeneration. Our Democracy suffered a great deal and society development and progress was hampered by this same hurdle in our inability of distinguishing between what is religion ,how  and where it should be practice and placed in a a society in distinction with politics.  Politics and religion are incompatible ideologies always in constant conflict with each other,  they are sometime characterized as cold-battle between two powerful ideologies that seek to play vital and long-lasting effect on individual life in the society,  while sometime they are characterized as tractable conflicts between two adamant ideologies in protracted struggle /competition to win the heart of society and its members. Thus win-loss resort to by either ideology can be resolved in either by violence, bloodshed or peaceful resolution by enactment of restrictive laws to establish boundary between them. That is, society of conservative or secularism.
Although  some will argue that religion is essential part of every society progress based on morality, justice, fairness and love. Yes, they maybe right as they may be wrong. If only we observe objectively the happenings in world politics in recent years. How nations that seek not to distinguish politics from religion or vice versa, how such nations were devastated by war, religious crisis.  Because of the inability of the government to constrain the extremist ideologies propagated by conservative- self-aclaimed religious scholars and leaders who even lack the basic knowledge of the religion they pretend to be fighting for and seek to protect with their lives. Thus these half-baked and little -learning that characterized such clerics make them responsible for the war- torn societies we are living and breathing in not yet -died gun powder,  exploded bombs air smell.
Few examples on Nigeria recorded cases of religious crisis and conflicts will suffice for my argument. History have it that from pre-independent Nigerian societies the most frequent occurrence of conflicts are religion based crisis. Like Kano riot of 1952, with numerous occasions after independent to mention but few;  Jos crisis,  Southern Kaduna,  Shagamu in Ogun state, and most recently in our nation history the bokoharam insurgency,  few weeks ago in Ile ife where decades religion grievances between indigenous people and the settlers was let-loosed thank to some mindful and well-meaning traditional ruler and politicians who prevented its escalation.
Nigerian politics from infant is characterized by involving religion matters in to politics which is not have to be,  let religion and its clerics be solely for preaching and educating people in moral values,  justices and fair treatment of one another in the society based on the tenets of their religious beliefs.  And politics should be left only to politicians, it is a game of neutrality in religion or ethnicity. And not sentimental or incompetence or bias in religion affliction or influence.  It is right time Nigerians should learn lessons from their history and let us have in our national politics a clear secular -humanism spirit in our government and democratic process.  Let stop fooling ourselves that we are religious country, Nigeria is one of the most complex society and most diverse nation on earth. Religionists ruling this country will not work for us,  only leaders with secular -humanism ideology that will move this our sorry nation. Religion should be a business of private life and not public things especially for our politicians. Leaders  pretense to be religious when serving the nation brought us to this mess and joke this country turned into by those so-called leaders who constantly mock their religion in celebration of their ineptitude, corruption, looting, gross mismanagement of public funds.

PROBLEMS -SOLVING WAYS FOR NIGERIANS TO FOLLOW

GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
BY:
HABIBU GENTE
DATE:  Saturday, 29, April, 2017.

I have so far discussed some major problems with Nigerians and I showed the extent to which those problems hindered our journey as one single and indivisible nation called Nigeria. As the topic above suggest, we will see ways on how some of the issues that affect our progress could be solve and the political philosophy that would be (in my own view) adaptable in our rigid socioeconomic class backgrounds (the stratification between those who have and have-not) and introduce new mechanism for flexibility to meet the challenges of 21 century.
The following are some of the suggestions /recommendations I identified;
Politically,
1. Conditional love/hatred;  unconditional love /hatred means,  that part of our psychology that  forced us to have unconscious love or hatred for or against our politicians regardless of whether they fulfil and protect our interests (what they suppose to have represented) or they harvest our riches and convert public funds to their own'vested interest'.  By extension,  that psychosis  and malfunctioned mentally thinking mindset installed in us to deter our good conscience reasoning to see beyond the restricted horizon which lens is only designed to view the beautified misdeeds of our political oppressors as a blessings that we end up usually applauding and praising. The evil of unconditional love and hatred by most of Nigerians toward their leaders had and still doing a great deal of ravaging in our political arena,  and this patently misguided action is what resulted into the degeneration and decaying of the country's politics. Nigerians are fond of ardently worshiping their political idols and evangelizing their misdeeds desperately to all and sundry who appeared to them not yet to be intoxicated by their 'idols' politico- psychological manipulation drugs. For in this country we need conditional love/hatred -syndrome that we enable million of everyday Nigerians to dilute that drug that make them to nurture the unconditional love/hatred for or against their politicians.  We the masses must begin to develop theory of 'I hate you and you will not have my vote if you are selfish,  merciless, clueless, incompetent leader regardless of either you come from my ethnic, religion or region'. And 'I love you and you will have my vote if you characterized yourself as a competent, selfless,  fruitful, unbiased leader no matter who you are, where you come from or what you look like'.  The sooner we the electorates dropped off the sentimental love/bias in deciding who will lead us, regional politics, baseless and clueless ethino-religion political game, backward democratization of appointments for public offices. Better for our country that couldn't yet made her way from 'new democracy ' to 'liberal Democracy'.
                                                                       To be continued .

PART-THREE: THE PROBLEMS WITH NIGERIANS

GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
BY:
HABIBU GENTE
DATE:  Saturday, 22  April, 2017.

A continuation of last week column;
3.     NONCHALANT ALTITUDE: One of the major problems with Nigerians both the leaders and the followers is the nonchalant attitude in dealing with core issues that affect our living in the society. For the leaders they show their nonchalant attitude in the way and manner they handle our problems politically, socially and economically in the sense that the leaders wouldn't proffer solutions to the immediate problems affecting their people. All they do is to half-execute political projects just to lure the electorates to win their votes on the election day. And the worst part of it, is they will never offer the masses a sustainable development, but rather give them insatiable things that will not last for years. The portrait of Nigeria politicians and the electorates, is like a fowl and her master. The master will not throw corns for his fowl that will sustained her for hours, in order to avoid abandonment that he may likely suffer from the fowl.  But the fowl will always forget her master if she can feed herself from either her friends homes or in an independent search. Just as there is hope for that fowl that one day she will free herself despite the psychological enslavement, there is hope for everyday Nigerians that one day they needed not be oppressed with hunger or threatened by starvation and design destitution if they made a brave steps to choose those who will rule and govern their affairs in the country and not to imposed a leader to them by the  merciless elites . This empty threats but political banter of the politicians depicted in the way they execute their projects like; awarding hajj or Jerusalem visit to some people while they lack good or no  water, decent Healthcare in their respective villages,  spending outrageous money in scholarship while primary and secondary school education is rotting academically and wailing for lack of quality teachers.  Distributing motor bikes and cars to low or no income earners without upgrading their wages or providing them with a source of income. As for the nonchalant attitude of the followers is the business of 'i don't care if it is not from my side'  the people are of the attitude of 'i don't care'  if anything misfortune  befell a  particular region of the country, they show lack of interest 'if such tragedy is not from their own side. The nonchalant attitude of Nigerians is what led to most of the tragic experience that occurred in the country, like When issue of kidnapping evolved from the southern part of the country no one take it seriously from the sisters regions everyone think is the 'problem of the South and not ours' until those kidnappers begun abduction of prominent leaders or their families that is when it becomes 'Nigeria problem'.  Same with the menace of bokoharam its started like a joke from some angry sect of Muslims in northern part of the country who are not satisfied with the way their other Muslims brothers treat them. And people from other regions treat the situation as the 'problem of the muslim north', not until those malicious people lunched  their attack without discrimination or exception to any religion faith. Begun killing innocent people, abducting children, bombing of religious centers, made an attempt to some politicians 'lives, there it become' Nigeria problem '.
The next will be the solution /suggestions to all these and other little problems of Nigerians. There i will make recommendations for the core issues And political philosophy that will be good and adoptable for Nigerians.

PART-TWO: THE PROBLEMS WITH NIGERIANS

GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,

A continuation of last week column;
The problems with Nigeria isn't the amalgamation of 1914, it isn't 1979 republic nor  the failure of the first independent general census. To me the problem started when chief Enahoro tabled for the independence 1954. The total rejection of the motion by some groups and the conspiracy behind it advocacy. That is the root of our problems. And its grandchild is the 1966 coup which gave birth to the gory civil war that lasted in 1970.  From that very moment in our nation, the disparity,  lack of trust,  hatred,  selfishness and ethno-religion sentiment seeds germinated into beautiful green-vegitaton called 'Nigeria of our time'.
A lot of social commentators had written a great deal of the troubled with Nigeria and avoid to write about the core problems with Nigerians. The social errors and vices of the  people of Nigeria, the rotten social orientation in our societies is so pervasive that it's ravaging in the mind of almost all people of Nigeria even within the so-called academics.
Still in on the problems with Nigerians;
2.  CULTURAL STEREOTYPE :In Nigeria today many people think badly about each other cultures,  norms and values. And what a particular group in a society cherished.  It is only in Nigeria where popular culture of the people is not regarded. But people will be busy judging you with those dark ages beliefs and what people of that era considered moral,  just simply because you are incidentally found in that ethnic group. Nigerians doesn't consider that customs of people are flexible and can adopt changing circumstances. Stereotypical misguidance like Northern people are illiterate,  terrorists, pedophiles. While the southern people are; ingrained hypocrisy,  human traffickers, sex-free society. And the Eastern people are;  greedy-ingrained,  sex-workers,  Power mongers etc. All these but few things I mentioned here are typical phrases used against each other society. It is very sad that non of them will spare a time to leave his own society to visit his fellow brother's society and see for himself if it is true of what hearsay fed him of from his childhood, Nigeria is a country where we strongly believe in a 'single story'.  The danger in single story is you will only be told one-sided story about a particular people and their society, which often times is lies and stereotypes and if you don't try to verify it yourself,  you will be misguided by someone whose interest will be invested in the detriment of your ignorance. Thus the general misconceptions chain will continue with stronghold of hatred. The implications of this 'single story' is that,  its doesn't know you are educated or not it can raid your conscience if only you restrict yourself in listening or reading one version of the story of particular people. Even academics and some timid intellectuals are victims of this 'single story '.
What we do forget is that no culture in this world is so special and decent without such particular culture having no its trace from a divine religions. So cultures without device religion is nothing but a mango fruit that shines and rotten inside the seed.  As for Nigerians if are trace our cultures prior to our embrace of religion, none of the cultures will be attractive in this modern time. Believe me ,they will all crumble in face of the heterogeneous world cultural challenge.

THE PROBLEMS WITH NIGERIANS

GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
BY:
HABIBU GENTE
DATE:  Saturday,  April 8, 2017.

'In a time of deceit telling the truth is  a revolutionary act'
                                                                    Gorge Orwell
Nigeria is a country with the highest number of ethnic groups in Africa . And the largest in the continent,  and most populous black nation on earth. Blessed with both abundance of natural and human resources, yet one of the poorest countries in the world today.  Having the most richest cultures yet they have the most pervasive moral decadence politicians.  A rich nation with a poorest citizens. One of the fastest growing economy while the citizens droning in the ocean of poverty. Having highest number of educational institutions in Africa,  yet eighty percent of the citizens are illiterates. They experienced one of the worst civil wars in the world,  yet they are the least nations in the world to forget the gory history and swift to repeat such mistake in human history.
Many scholars and intellectual academics had intensively discuss about the problems of Nigeria. For me to write about same topic it would be like a drop of rain in a ocean.  However,  a drop of rain in the ocean wouldn't reduced its water.  Rather it will increase to the already abundance. This is what I will do, and equally to remind our youths that those problems outlined by those intellectuals like Chinua Achebe,  Soyinka and the likes,  it isn't same problems that affect us today there are new ones that grew with circumstances of times and social change in our modern day. Although some of it still hunt us today, problems like;  lack of good leadership,  lack of patriotism,  intolerance,  nepotism,  tribalism, ethnicity and corruption etc.
And it grandchild is the 1966 coup which gave birth to the gory civil war that lasted in 1970.  From that very moment in our nation the disparity,  lack of trust,  hatred,  selfishness and ethno-religion sentiment seeds germinated into beautiful green-vegitaton called 'Nigeria of our time'.
However,  here are some of the problems with Nigerians I identified in our modern country;
1. ABSOLUTE TOLERANCE; There is not absolute tolerance in Nigeria. Some will argue that Nigerians tolerate each other. And they will cite example of the way people live peacefully with each other in different regions.  Like yorubas are living with hausas in the north. Igbos living with yorubas and hausas. And vice versa. But I said it is misleading to think so,  in those regions there is only 'political tolerance ' and not what I called ' absolute tolerance '. Why?,  because absolute tolerance means not only to live peacefully with one another in good and calm times. No,  its means understand each other cultures , beliefs and norms ,understand your differences and live with them.  And when your ideologies clashes resolve to adopting 'hold yours' and 'I hold mine'. And not to imposed yours in others and be convinced about its superiority complex. And when there is clash with those cultures, norms and values or any wrongs from its adherents judge each one based on their own values norms and cultures regardless of where they reside. This is what 'absolute tolerance ' means.
                                                                             To be continued .

WHAT PRESIDENT-ELECT KWARO OF LSS BUK NEED TO KNOW

HABIBU GENTE;

Mr. President-elect your victory on the poll  did not mean your opponent is weak. It means that you are the one destined to be task with the responsibility of carrying faculty of law students to the next level. Your struggle start now, and it will never end until you vacate the post. Your campaign slogan was 'unity ' and many people are clamoring for this same unity.  This is why they elected you as their president.   And mind you if  you failed them,  it wouldn't take something for them to impeach you.
The very unity you campaign for was being tested by many of your supporters and campaign team. They used derogatory terms to define your opponent which is very bad and defaming in nature.  My last article too,  contributed in threatening the foundation of our unity. For it touched the aggrieved party. Mr.  President -elect all these it is a test to your competency and on how truthful your campaign slogan 'unity' will be achieved. Show to the people that you stand for that 'unity' and not otherwise to gain their support.
1. You and your campaign team owe your opponent Auwal Sirajo an open letter apology for the defamation and to restore his good image back in the faculty. This will be the first step toward achieving unity.
2. Know that your team that help you to win the election may not necessarily be your cabinet if only you want unity and peace. You should tried to involve many elderly but selfless individuals to make up your cabinet. That too is another step to uniting the faculty and its members.
3. Know that some of your campaign team members are  not fit to bring unity among the students. So fish out those who can do it.
4. Know there will not be any development in the faculty without you engaging every person that show concern and have interest in moving the LSS.
5.Our major threat to uniting the faculty is your class.  Make a bold steps to bring your people (class)  together and united as strong and single brotherhood as a leader .if you achieve this,  then we will believe in you as someone who will bring unity in the faculty. Your class is the one we are all looking after as example and if your differences will continue to exist then,  there is no way how that unity will be realize in LSS.  You shouldn't let your own difference in the class affect the whole faculty , because that is what exactly is happening.  Your class tried to involved everybody into your own class problems which has nothing to do with us. Try to settle your class problem and not involve anyone outside your class.  Your class already did a great deal of damage to the LSS enough is enough.
6. Finally Mr. President -elect to achieve this unity in your class,  engage your opponent Auwal he is a symbol of unity and peace. He accepted defeat and embrace you despite voices are saying no it. His courage and love for LSS is immeasurable,  he show his level of maturity by calming his supporters even after the election .in fact he is symbol of democracy in LSS

MY RESPONSE TO MY TODAY'S MISCONSTRUED ARTICLE

HABIBU GENTE

Though many people may think I wrote this to quench the fire -uproar of altercation that went viral on social media early morning.  My article received condemnation and I was personally attacked. Well that isn't something that I will take personal, to me this is the least I could get in living in a society where if you deviate from the conformity of people whimsical views and interest, even if it means you are saying the truth. I deserved all the vulgar words everyone used against me,  because if you have to stand on truth always even against all odd and intimidation. You should be expecting something like this. I knew it was coming and I embraced it when it come.
My writing was totally misunderstood and people think it will trigger the pending grievances hanging around the faculty. Writers are the most misunderstood people in world today,  so I can't be exception. To those who read and follow my writings, I'm radical in my approach to issues that concern everyday people. And because of my unquantifiable concern for those people,  my need for justice for everyone, I cherished equality and love. I appear always as most radical writer. So understand me,  I hold no grudges or hatred against anyone. I respect people but we will have differences when you attempt to smear those things I held dearly.
Although I  was harsh and brutal in my today's article .I know that my words are very vulgar,  yea it is true. I hurt many of my closet friends and associates for they are among those I centered my attack on. But if truth be told, it is the justice I could do to the reaction prior to the election.  Of course,  not all of them may be in such attitude. But what a reasonable person would infer,  they left those individuals to destroy their goodwill they might have for the people,  while they let those their good sense to be outweighed by the restricted thinking.  To my closet friends and associates you may disappointed by me today, you think I insulted you,  know that it is not personal. And I will not feel happy to insult you. It is because you found yourself mixed up in a wrong side of the world.
Let me make something straight to all LSS members, my today's article doesn't mean that kwaro group has no problem or deficiency on how they too,  conducted their campaign strategy. No they have a lot and I will discuss that later in my writings. (I owe you two more topics on this election).
I wouldn't be happy as someone who always advocates unity ,peace and equality to see those things are disregarded in my own class. It will be a mockery to my intellectualism. So that is why I applied the theory of generalism in my approach today. To my friends in the class that I touched in today's article , we will settle that personally in our own way.
If anyone doesn't want to be in my 'rogue gallary' that is my isle of insensitive,  floozy,  ineptitude.  Then simple antidote will do it.  Be selfless,  fair,  just and respect and recognize every human by the virtue of their living as humans.

HOW AUWAL'S CAMPAIGN TEAM ARCHITECT HIS POLL LOST

GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,
BY:
HABIBU GENTE
DATE: Saturday ,1  April .2017

......Let not your failure define you. Let your failure teach you.
                                                                 Barrack Obama.
Unfortunately the 'campaign team' of the presidential candidate, Auwal Mukhtar Sirajo in just concluded election are farfetched responsible on the misfortune that befell their candidate on the poll. They may not know of this though, well it is the truth. Their ineptitude,  insincerity, insensitive, and political miscalculation accentuated their incompetent and social follies in giving advice to him.  They thought politics is about personal business and grudges, to them if you have a common difference with them you have no business in them. This alone is a myopic way of thinking.
Auwal's campaign team lack of tolerance to accommodate all people regardless of class,  status, ethnic/region and academic performance make them to loss the election before even the actual voting day. To them their first priority to choose leader who will lead them is,  how that  candidate perform academically. Why they forget that academy performance has nothing to do with leadership qualities. And the flimsy campaign strategy on such thing , make their candidate to lost his popularity among the electorates even before the election. Auwal has no problem in the way he approach people, is humble, polite and humane. But his campaign team lack all these which consequently made him to suffered their ineptitude.
Again another major thing that contributed to his lost,  is the' hate campaign' strategy his team had been making viral in social media and in verbally when in contact with those whom they considered opposition or working with their opponent. Such things like, their opponent has three carryovers, he is not competent,  he can't speak good English, and other irrelevant issues that has no ground in politics.  Should they spend all those precious time they uselessly squandered in their 'hate campaign ',  in promoting their candidate 's qualities, competency,  vibrancy,  humbleness,  I'm sure he would have not lost his polarity day before the election. Politics is not about hate campaign against your opponent, politics is all about promoting your candidate.
Because they already sore their relationship with people,  they in turn became paranoid thinking that if you take no interest in their ideology,  it mean you hated them.  They also have this 'guilty conscious ' ingrained in them. Which make them to think that everybody doesn't like their candidate. To be frank I personally, did not have any problem with the candidate I know he could do the job. But my major problem is with his campaign team they have no regard to people 's personality,  dignity or respect. And why I debunked their ideology is simple,  because they have no social orientation and dignity to human.
If Auwal would or any candidate have these bunch of  inept,  insensitive,  myopic,  human wolf, and floozy individuals as campaign team,  will never win election where there are sensitive, educated and civilized people like Faculty of Law BUK.  To risk being exaggerating , if Auwal will re-contest again (with someone worst than Kwaro) with those people as his campaign team he will never win the election.

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE : MY OWN PERSONAL ACCESSEMENT

      By: HABIBU GENTE
Date:  Wednesday 29 2017

The nail has been heated on the head today on the pending issues that hovered on the candidates' speculations based on their competency and vibrancy.  To some is like they silenced their critics , while to others is just a stepping stone toward gaining the popularity  of the electorates. Whichever is the case, it is still a great contest between the two. And consequently depict their aptitude and individual intellectualism .
The hot contest between Kabir Lawal D. (Kwaro) and Auwal Mukhtar  Sirajo,  it is a beautiful one of its kind. Although the political ribaldry  displayed by their die-hard supporters tarred most of the responses emanated from them. And in the same vain , obstruct the thoughts provoking questions that might have come from the audiences. It is very bad indeed, that said.
I commend the two debaters for their bravery gestures in attempting the  numerous but challenging questions . Though ,there are some deficiencies in them. Some logical lapses and incoherent style they adopted in ways of approaching keys issues in their manifestos. Anyway,  they will not suffer the blame alone. However,  the Caretaker Committee too,  contributed on the follies accentuated in the Congress. Their poor organization did a incurable damage to the whole event.  I hope such mistake will not repeat itself in the future.
     My judgment goes like this;
The most impressive part of the debate and the best responses both the candidates could ever give the audiences,  is the first question thrown to them  by the Chairman CTC. If my memory could serve me well,  the question is something like this "everyone know and complain about the degeneration of LSS and the malfunction it's suffered by the previous administrations. So what tools did you have to revive the LSS?"
MR. Auwal response went like this; " the only tools that I think can revive LSS is two;  Representation and Development ". Although,  he didn't explained those tools and how they could help in reviving the  "death LSS".
MR. Kwaro response went like this;  " What i think that can help in reviving LSS is for us to adopt the philosophical approach.  And the tools are Unity,  equality,  and mutual relationship ". Of course he too,  didn't analyze those tools and how they could be of help in reviving the 'death LSS'.
To me these responses from the candidates are the best so far they gave throughout the debate. All the rest are just noises they made,  and perpetually deviating from the questions when attempting to answer them.  Too sad indeed.
HERE IS MY MESSAGE TO EVERY ELECTORATES
Please vote wisely  without fear or intimidation from any of the candidates or their die-hard supporters . And bore in minds that someone has to win and someone will lose.  So never allow any politicians to use you as machinery to invest in their 'vested insterests'' so much that you become his blind supporter that will lead you to taint your relationship with others who oppose him. I hope I could say much,  but I ran out of space. So let us watch the battle with keen interest, peacefully and wisely.
