GINA WEEKEND COLUMN,

It's bizarre and outlandish that law student society, Bayero university Kano
chapter paddling on the old ideas that had for so long be discarded by the
challenges and development of modern forces of intellectual transformation.
Which I'm very sure even in Nigeria secondary schools where we known it to
pervasive, ( unnecessary seniority), majorities of the private own schools even
with many public schools is of no existence anymore especially in their now
modern-oriented academy system. It is mockery to the nobility of faculty of
law (particularly Bayero university Kano) that whilst others faculties of law are
craving their ways toward achieving success by competing in mock/moot trial
both national and international, debates and intellectual talk shows. Here L.
S. S. BUK, is busy casting shadow on trivial and frivolity on the outdated
principle of 'seniority '.Because of this derogatory term no any Junior
colleague would be spared their incessant berate and lambasting if such
student failed to recognize their never-deserved dignity and respect they
campaigning on umbrella of 'pride'. This word 'seniority ' is ravaging the
whole faculty especially within students, the destruction of this misleading
concept is no longer something that we can be silent about or pretending no
to act. For its left majority of the so-called 'seniors' misguided to such an
extent that someone in the higher class will be looking down on his junior
colleague, just because he senior him with a class or two. And where the
worst of the misguidance appear obviously is whenever a junior colleague
engaged in an intellectual conversation /argument with his senior colleague,
to the so called 'senior ' he falsely think that he has discretion to discredit
and debunk whatever opinion/points his junior made in the course of their
involvement even in a conversation he too seen obviously ignorant about.
(this is how far the concept 'seniority' mislead them). What they failed to
understand is that intelligent is never measured by higher rank of class nor
will it be measured by the luxury of the basic school (secondary, high school)
you might have attended prior to your admission to university. Intelligence is
divinely endowed to just few selected people coupled with the hard work in
striving to unleash the gift. The sooner they understand this, the better for the
development of the death L. S. S. For this misguidance had broken the ties of
brotherhood and understanding socializing within the students, of which they
know of law students customs and traditions. It has been a course of our
disunity and lack of trust for a long time, which made the foundation of our
relationship slant and pervert the little love we had for each other. And so
long this misguidance of 'pride'continue to consume them and blindfold their
sensibility, I'm sorry to say, the more quicker our paces to the journey back to
the dark ages. Where empty pride will reign and arrogance will rock stand and
humbleness will be wiped out from people's hearts. Though a knowledge that
did not earn you position of honor in the society and make you humble toward
people, is the worst of all knowledge.
GINA WEEKEND COLUMN.: I discuss my experience, opinion on Nigeria politics. And give my commentary on the social, economic and cultural happenings. All these are base on my understanding and conviction of Nigeria society. Thus comments and objective criticism are most welcome.
